This Session IPA style beer has a lower alcohol content than the bitter Indian Pale Ale (IPA), but still has the body of the beer, making it easier to drink. The secondary ingredient is a precious syrup made by boiling down the sap of the silver maple trees that grow wild in Hosono, Obanazawa City, Yamagata Prefecture, which has a high sugar content so that the sap does not freeze, to 1/50 of its original sugar content. It is said to have beauty and health benefits. The hops used are also from Obanazawa, using the Shinshu Wase variety. The gentle sweetness of the maple syrup tones down the bitterness of the hops.
